Tips from the Musician

(for weddings)

A wedding requires a great deal of planning. Good insight into the needs of all on-site vendors will ensure the event is smooth and fun.

CHAIRS:

Be sure there are chairs (without arms) for the musicians in the ceremony. Venue staff tend to forget this.

DIRECT SUN:

Avoid placing musicians in the sun. Put them in the shade. They usually dress in black. Imagine an unconscious musician at your wedding (not good).

BALANCE OF PAYMENT:

Be sure the musician knows who to see for any balance due.

If your contract requires a remaining payment due at the event, you may want to have a “TRUSTED” person handle this for you.

ON-SITE CONTACT PERSON:

Be sure the musician has contact info. for the on-site coordinator (name & cell phone).

PARKING AND ACCESS:

Be sure the musician can park and access the site easily. If you pay a musician’s parking fee, they will love you.

OVERTIME PAY:

Expect to pay for overtime if your keep the musicians longer than contracted. A musician who has contracted other players on your behalf will have to pay them for their extra time.

RAIN:

Musician’s have expensive equipment to move. They can’t dash for cover. A sudden downpour can be devastating. Expect musicians to move to cover if there is the slightest chance of rain.

MUSICIAN’S INSTRUMENTS:

Cost more than your car (really). Never place musicians in conditions that endanger their instruments (rain).

CASH TIPS:

Always appreciated. Especially, if the musician has invested their own time preparing special music for your occasion.

ELEPHANTS AND WILD BOARS:

So far, this hasn’t come up. Just as well.
